The Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS) hosted 20 Arab participants for an intensive workshop on quantitative data analysis for the social sciences from May 22, 2017 till May 26, 2017 in Beirut.

Co-organized with the Odum Institute for Research in Social Science at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill (USA), the workshop was designed to give participants a grounded introduction to quantitative data methods for use in their research.

Participants came from 11 countries in the Middle East: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan, Somalia, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Qatar. They consisted of master’s students, doctoral students, and practitioners in civil society and academic organizations, all with academic grounding in the social sciences.

Over the course of five days, participants engaged with the trainers from the Odum Institute on methods and techniques of quantitative data analysis, and its application in social science research. The workshop covered topics from the basics of research to the design and analysis of models in quantitative research.

The workshop was an opportunity to gather participants from across the Arab region, and create a space for them to learn from the instructors and each other.
