Job Opportunity: Academic Program Manager, UNE Campus in Tangier

Reporting to the Vice President of Global Affairs, the Academic Program Manager of the University of New England's (UNE) campus in Tangier manages all academic affairs on campus, including teaching two courses a semester, overseeing all aspects of the delivery of courses, developing new courses and cultural activities for students and the community, hiring local faculty to teach and lecture, and supervising staff. This person will manage all of UNE's Lecture Series in Tangier and all cultural activities taking place at the lecture hall and on campus. He or she will be expected to facilitate all logistical operations for the implementation of UNE's vision.
 
The Academic Program Manager will work closely with the Campus Manager and is expected to assist the Vice President for Global Affairs promptly and efficiently as and when needed.
 
A partial description of responsibilities is outlined below.
 
Academics:
 
  • Teach two courses per semester.
  • Provide logistical support for faculty as and when needed.
  • Recruit, help, and provide all logistical support for local adjuncts.
  • Liaise with UNE faculty in Maine to arrange courses and schedules.
  • Liaise with UNE's Global Education Program to schedule courses on the Tangier campus.
 
Student Services:
 
  • Coordinate with Global Education Program staff on Biddeford campus to produce marketing and pre-departure materials for students.
  • Help in recruiting UNE and US-based students to the Tangier Campus.
  • Hold regular office hours.
  • Implement all aspects of services (orientation, cross-cultural information, housing assignments, cultural and social activities and excursions, personal counseling, student health services, legal matters, conflict resolution and discipline).
  • Help advise students with registration for home-campus semester courses.
  • In conjunction with the Campus Manager, build portfolio of volunteer and/or internship opportunities for students
  • In conjunction with the Campus Manager, liaise with local universities to provide UNE students opportunities to interact with Moroccan students.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
 
  • Ph.D. required. Candidate must have background and experience in Morocco.
  • 7-10 years' professional work experience, preferably in an international education-related position.
  • Familiarity with U.S. higher education and direct experience working with U.S. college and university students.
  • Strong leadership and management skills and a commitment to customer service.
  • Strong interpersonal skills-Must be able to engender the trust and confidence of students and parents, and be able to deal effectively with a wide variety of sensitive issues.
  • Willingness and ability to live full-time (12 months per year) in Tangier, Morocco.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills-Must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, staff and Moroccan partners.
  • Must be able to work through and resolve a wide range of issues (some difficult/sensitive) and explain business and academic issues.
  • Must be an exemplary ambassador of UNE.
  • Integrity-Must be a role model for professionalism and commitment.
 
***The Academic Program Coordinator is expected to be on call for emergency circumstances 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Travel is expected on occasion.
